Über die letzten jahre gelang es den the fresh & onlys sich in die herzen einer immer grösser werdenden schar von fans zu spielen. die fresh & onlys sind so eine richtige lieblingsband. es gibt eigentlich niemanden, der dem charme des sängers tim cohen und seiner mannen nicht verfällt. früher oder später kriegen sie sie alle. das who is who der amerikanischen underground labels (woodsist, in the red und captured track) rissen sich darum ihre platten zu veröffentlichen, auf dem all tomorrows parties festival sind sie sowas wie ein stammgast, und bands wie black lips und deerhunter haben ihre lieblingsband mit auf tour genommen. diesen herbst folgt ihr inzwischen viertes album, das endlich auch in europa erscheint, auf souterrain transmissions, der heimat von crocodiles, moon duo, zola jesus und coco rosie. >long slow dance< (oder auch l.s.d.) heisst das album. abermals geht es sehr romantisch zu und hittig, man fühlt sich an go-betweens erinnert und frühe (gute!) r.e.m., aber alles glücklicherweise nicht glatt sondern schrullig. es fällt da nicht leicht ein anderes label ausser pop im besten sinne zu verwenden!

steevio delivers the second offering in the >modular techno< series of live improvised analogue recordings extracted from his practice sessions for the freerotation electronic music festival which he organises with partner suzybee. with vol 2 steevio takes his modular jams to the next level with more complex sequencing and refined harmonics in contrast to the deliberately raw vol 1. only basic editing to extract the individual tracks from the 1 hour live sessions was used, and there was no prior planning involved other than a choice of tempo and key. each session evolved from a totally blank canvass on steevios eurorack modular synth and moog voyager.

this latest release from hizatron and bashley galvanises the usual wigflexian- gloop with a more industrial edge and a superb implementation of found sounds. a darker pallet underpins the record but this is inverted then lifted with inserts of scattered euphoria. whilst all that is synonymous with the current face of techno lurks consistently in the background throughout, in an almost redemptive fashion, we are hoisted upward from a chromatic descent and set forth onto a crisp, bouncy path peppered with light. the depth of stereo field is utilised perfectly here and the use of dimension is something of a staple for all of those who call wigflex home. hizatron is known for his seamless arrangements, catchy melodies and punchy percussion and this record has that unquestionable tron swagger but the familiar sound is accelerated by new influences from bashley who although a relatively unknown member of the family brings a fresh range of timbres that compliment hizas signature grooves.
